Also, there is also a 3-inch high-resolution LCD screen with a 460k point, an electronic shutter, and a built-in pop-up blitz.
Nikon 1 S1 Features and Design
The Nikon 1 S1 is certainly an interesting camera, especially the red version that was sent to me for review. I received an awe-struck comment from some of my shooting acquaintances. The body is made from a combination of metal and plastic and has a sturdy flavor.
Nikon 1 S1 has an attractive hybrid autofocus system that combines difference detection and phase difference in the same way as Fujifilm F300EXR does. This allows Nikon 1 S1 to focus very quickly in good light, even on moving subjects. The company claimed the Nikon 1 system camera is the fastest focusing engine in the world, and it matches our experience-as long as there is enough light. When the light level drops, the camera switches to the contrast-detection AF which, although faster than most cameras, is not as fast as the other methods. Always the camera that decides which AF method to the use-the the user has no influence on this.
S1 has an electronic shutter. Completely silent (focus confirmation beep can be disabled from the menu) and allows the use of shutter speeds as fast as 1/16,000 seconds and, with the Electronic Hi setting selected, allows you to shoot full-resolution images at 60 frames per second. Note that although this is a great achievement, it is limited by a buffer that can only hold 20 raw files. In addition, the use of this mode blocks AF tracking-you must lower the frame rate to 10fps if you want it-, and the viewfinder becomes blank as the image is being captured. About the only app we can think of where shooting full-resolution images at 60fps is really useful is the bracketing AE for HDR imaging.
