Nikon 1 V1 Mirrorless Digital Camera
Nikon 1 V1 Firmware Update – The Nikon 1 introduces two new cameras with a completely new lens mount, a completely new sensor design, and a new lens that fits the system. Now that the full production camera has been available let’s take a look at V1 performance. With full resolution 60fps shooting and the world’s fastest focus claim, the camera certainly offers something unique, finding out how it performs in our reviews.
Nikon 1 V1 Features and Design
Nikon 1 cameras are made to be very small and lightweight. The Nikon 1 V1 is only 113x76x44mm in size – even the smallest Nikon D3100 DSLR is much larger and thicker than this camera, measuring 124x97x74mm. In terms of weights, the mirrorless V1 is only 294 grams, while the same D3100 DSLR weighs 455 grams.
This is how the Nikon DSLR prices are smallest against V1. Other Nikon DSLR, especially something like a D300 or D700 look and feels very large compared. However, when compared to the mirrorless competition, Nikon V1 is, unfortunately, bigger and heavier. The Olympus E-PL3 and camera body Sony NEX-5n are more compact and offer richer specs and fewer weights. The battery used by V1 is the same as that of the Nikon D7000 DSLR, which certainly helps with battery life, but significantly increases camera weight.
V1 uses the shutter of all silent electronics. It delivers a shutter speed of up to 1/16,000 seconds or a mechanical shutter with little shutter speed limitation but a better flash sync speed (1/250 versus 1/60). You have to choose from. The electronic screen can also be set to a high mode which results in a faster frame rate but has several other sacrifices.
V1 uses an existing DSLR battery, EN-EL15. This is a pleasant surprise and is of course welcomed by Nikon DSLR shooters who want to take a smaller camera for casual shooting.
