Nikon COOLPIX P90 Compact Digital Camera
Nikon COOLPIX P90 Firmware Update – The Nikon Coolpix P90 is the successor to Nikon’s first superzoom compact camera, the P80 model, last year. The 12-megapixel P90 offers a number of significant improvements, especially the outstanding 24x wide-angle zoom lens that provides a massive focal range of 26-624mm. Featuring Nikon’s VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization system to help ensure that most photos are sharp and do not experience camera shake, the Coolpix P90 also offers a 3-inch tilt LCD screen, an electronic viewfinder for image composition, a full range of exposure control with Auto, Program, Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority and full Manual modes, and an extensive ISO 64-6400 range.
Nikon COOLPIX P90 Design, Features, and Performance
The P90 follows current trends in ultrazoom design, resembling a mini DSLR size and basic control layout. The matte black composite body features a narrow metal band on the lens barrel and looks stocky.
The body has a very sculpted handle with a tacky rubber-like material that wraps around it. Another patch of the same material covers the thumb rest area on the back of the camera. There is a good distance between the grip and the lens barrel, but people with very large fingers may feel a bit pinched. The shooting finger falls naturally onto the shutter button, and the placement of the controls ensures that accidental activation is few and far between.
The incredible 24x zoom lens makes the Nikon Coolpix P90 one of the most versatile compacts in the focal range. Focal lengths of 26-624mm should handle most photographic possibilities, except ultra wide-angle shots. The P90 lens is extremely fast, with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 at 26mm and f/5 at 624mm, although don’t expect to get a DSLR-like blurry background due to its relatively small sensor.
