When set to one of these alternative aspects/sensor sizes, the D800 helps to display the areas covered with black lines in the viewfinder to make it easier to compose your image. Being a full-frame model, D800 works best with FX lenses, but if for any reason you are tempted to use a DX-optimised lens, then you have to set the D800 to DX mode. Otherwise, the smaller image circles of the DX lens will produce dark corners and edges in all your images. In all capture modes, the D800 can be set to record large, medium, or small JPEG on basic, Normal, or good quality.
