Nikon COOLPIX P340 Compact Digital Camera
Nikon COOLPIX P340 Firmware Update – The Nikon Coolpix P340 is a new compact camera designed to attract enthusiastic photographers. The Nikon P340 has a 12 megapixel rear-beamed 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor, a 5x optical zoom with a focal range of 24-120mm, a maximum aperture of f/1.8-5.6 and lens-shift vibration reduction, RAW (NRW) data processing, internal Wi-Fi connectivity. The new multifunctional lens ring offers quick access to manual focus, shutter speed, and ISO. The P340 also provides an ISO sensitivity range of 80 to 12800, a built-in Neutral Density filter, creative PASM shooting mode, 1080/60i/50i HD video recording full of stereo sound and slow and fast motion movies, 10-frame burst mode per second, 99-point autofocus system, focus peak, and 921,000-point 3-inch RGBW LCD.
Nikon COOLPIX P340 Design, Features, and Performance
The Nikon Coolpix P340 is almost identical to its predecessor, the P330, in external design and display. You can easily carry the P340 into your pants pocket or shirt, as it measures 103.0mm x 58.3mm x 32.0mm and weighs 194g with a battery and built-in memory card. The P340 is slightly larger than the Canon PowerShot S120, marginally smaller than the Panasonic Lumix LX7 and Olympus XZ-2, and a similar size to the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100. However, all of these models can still be bagged.
The front of the Nikon Coolpix P340 is equipped with the 5x zoom lens. Nikon has included a VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization system to help prevent camera shake, allowing the use of shutter speeds of up to four slower stops. At the same time, Active mode ensures clear shots even of moving vehicles. Unfortunately, there is no special button to turn it on and off (somewhat buried in the Settings menu). In practice, we found that VR systems make a real difference to image sharpness, as shown in the example on the Image Quality page.
The familiar Nikon Coolpix, P340 Menu button, accesses the regular Nikon menu system, clear and easy to navigate. Press this while in any shooting mode, and there are three menus, Shooting, Movies, and Settings, with two menus, Playback, and Settings, available when you review the image. A major omission is the almost constant need to use the menu system to adjust ISO speed, white balance, measurement, AF mode, and continuous shooting, with at least four keystrokes required to change this frequently used feature. However, the Function key does not address some of these issues by providing quick access to a single key function.
