Nikon 1 J2 Firmware Update – The Nikon 1 J2 is a stylish compact system camera that features a 10-megapixel “CX” format sensor and a Nikon 1 lens mount. Offering continuous shooting speed of up to 60 frames per second at full resolution, Full HD video capture, ultra-fast hybrid autofocus system, smart photo selector and unique motion Snapshot Mode, Nikon J2 Portable also offers More conventional shooting modes such as auto programmable, shutter and shot prioritization, as well as Manual Metered and new creative Mode that provide a variety of photo effects and easier access to the camera’s button settings. Also, there is a built-in flash pop-up with guide number 5, a 3-inch rear display with the improved 921k-dots resolution, and an electronic shutter.
Nikon 1 J2 Design and Features
The Nikon 1 J2 is mostly made of aluminum with reinforced parts magnesium alloy and, therefore, heavier than you think based on the size, of course, weighing 237g only for the body. It also feels better than the official product shots you believe. With a design that is essentially ungripped, Nikon J2 is a two-handed affair that requires you to hold the camera weight in your left hand, hold the lens, and use your right hand to balance and operate the controls.
The Nikon 1 J2 has an attractive hybrid autofocus system that combines difference detection and phase difference in the same way as Fujifilm F300EXR does. This allows Nikon 1 J2 to focus very quickly in good light, even on moving subjects. The company claimed the Nikon 1 system camera is the fastest focusing engine in the world, and it matches our experience-as long as there is enough light. When the light level drops, the camera switches to the contrast-detection AF, which, although faster than most cameras, is not as fast as the other methods.
The Nikon 1 J2 is an entry-level mirrorless camera from Nikon, with an enhanced screen resolution of the 921k dots (compared to 460k in J1); it is also available in six different colors: orange, maroon, white, black, pink, and grey. The Nikon 1 J2 has a more compact 11-27.5 mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, as well as a waterproof protector.
Nikon 1 J2 Performance
The camera produces excellent results, mainly using an automatic white balance, with a slight difference between the automatic white balance and the tungsten presets. Under fluorescent lighting, better results are obtained when using automatic white balance, with fluorescent presets providing a slight magenta funnel. Some moire marks are seen on the fabric pattern of the case in the center of the image, and the details are excellent for the 10-megapixel sensor.
Smart Photo Selector (SPS): Flash is not available, so ideally, you need good light for this, although the camera will increase the ISO setting when required. The camera takes 30 photos at 30fps and then presents five best photos, with one of the images highlighted as the overall best,
The Motion Snapshot or “Living Picture” Like The Nikon likes to call it, takes one photo, and one slow Motion video – (1 second long) and then when played back on the Nikon 1 J2 camera it plays the video then shows the picture with one of the four pieces of music (selected before shooting).

How to Updating the Camera Firmware

Create a new folder on your computer.
- Download the Nikon 1 J2 Firmware (F-J2-V120M.exe / F-J2-V120M.dmg) to the folder created in Step 1.
- Extract the Firmware file (F-J2-V120M.exe / F-J2-V120M.dmg) containing “J2_0120.bin” (camera firmware) to a folder called “J2Update“.
- Copy the file “J2_0120.bin” to the memory card that has been formatted in the Nikon 1 J2 camera.
- Insert the memory card into the main slot on the Nikon 1 J2 and turn on the camera.
- Select the Firmware version in “SETUP MENU” and follow the instructions displayed on the Nikon 1 J2 camera screen to complete the firmware update.
- Turn off Nikon 1 J2 camera and remove the memory card after the firmware update process is complete.
